Mumbai Indians reportedly want Shivam Dube and Ayush Mhatre from Chennai Super Kings in exchange for Hardik Pandya.
CSK, however, doesn’t want to include Mhatre. Instead, the franchise is offering Dewald Brevis, Dube, and an extra INR 10 crore in cash. So far, neither franchise has confirmed these numbers publicly.
What Mumbai Indians Are Reportedly Asking For
MI wants maximum value for Hardik Pandya. So, reports suggest the franchise has set its sights on two CSK players: Shivam Dube and Ayush Mhatre.
Dube offers a like-for-like swap, since he’s also a pace-bowling all-rounder. Mhatre, meanwhile, would give MI a long-term batting option. Together, the pair would help MI offset the loss of their captain.

| Franchise | Reported Ask / Offer for Hardik Pandya |
| Mumbai Indians (wants) | Shivam Dube and Ayush Mhatre |
| Chennai Super Kings (offers) | Shivam Dube, Dewald Brevis, and an additional INR 10 crore in cash |
Why CSK Is Unlikely to Let Mhatre Go
Chennai Super Kings reportedly doesn’t want to let go of Mhatre. The franchise views him as a long-term prospect. As a result, CSK doesn’t want to hand a rival team one of its own emerging talents.
Instead, CSK’s counter-offer swaps Mhatre for Dewald Brevis. The deal would still include Dube, plus INR 10 crore in cash to bridge the value gap.
How IPL Trades Actually Work
Under IPL rules, trades happen only between franchises, not directly with players. A deal can take one of three forms.
- All-cash deal: one franchise pays a fee to acquire a player outright.
- Swap deal: two franchises exchange players directly, with no cash involved.
- Player-plus-cash deal: a mix of players and a cash top-up to balance the valuations.
An all-cash move for Pandya looks unlikely, though. Instead, CSK will likely pursue a player-plus-cash structure, given the deal’s scale.
Hardik Pandya’s IPL 2026 Numbers Explain the Urgency
Pandya’s IPL 2026 campaign was underwhelming. The numbers help explain why Mumbai Indians are open to trading their captain.
With the bat, he scored 206 runs at an average of 22.89. His strike rate stood at 138.26, and he didn’t manage a single half-century. In the death overs, he managed just 49 runs off 37 balls.
His bowling numbers dipped too. He picked up just 4 wickets in 22.4 overs at an economy of 11.43. That economy climbed to 15.75 in the death overs, and to 13.75 in the powerplay. Still, he stayed tighter during the 12-16 over phase, conceding just 7.80 runs per over.

Where the Hardik Pandya Trade Talks Stand
Pandya’s projected market value for a trade sits around INR 16.35 crore. That said, the final figure will depend on negotiations between the two franchises.
Chennai Super Kings currently leads the race to sign Pandya. In fact, CSK has reportedly become the seventh IPL team to show interest in the all-rounder.
For now, though, neither side has finalised anything, and both franchises are yet to comment officially.
