Kuldeep Yadav Joins LSG, Rishabh Pant Departs: The Trade Explained
The IPL governing council confirmed this swap on June 23, 2026. Kuldeep Yadav joins Lucknow Super Giants from Delhi Capitals, and Rishabh Pant moves the other way.
LSG announced the move on its official channels, welcoming Kuldeep into a bowling unit that already includes Manimaran Siddharth and Digvesh Rathi.

Kuldeep arrives with 112 wickets from 110 IPL matches across his career, and moves at his existing fee of ₹13.5 crore.
Pant, on the other hand, leaves for a reduced fee of ₹15 crore, down from the record ₹27 crore LSG paid for him at the IPL 2025 mega auction.
In his two seasons at LSG, Pant played 28 matches and scored 581 runs, including an unbeaten century against RCB at Ekana in 2025.
The captaincy side didn’t click, though. Under Pant, LSG won 10 and lost 18 matches, finishing seventh in 2025 and last, in tenth place, in 2026.
LSG’s official statement thanked Pant for his contributions and wished him well, while telling Kuldeep to “weave your magic on the field.”

Who Will Captain LSG In IPL 2027?
LSG still doesn’t have a captain. Pant stepped down on May 29, 2026, and the franchise hasn’t set a timeline for naming his replacement.
Director of Cricket Tom Moody confirmed the exit in an official statement, saying the franchise’s “focus now is on the collective.”
It’s also unclear whether LSG will wait until the auction, likely in December, before making a call.
The Frontrunners, According To Reports
Mitchell Marsh looks like the strongest contender right now. He top-scored for LSG in IPL 2026 with 563 runs at a strike rate above 163, and he already captains Australia in T20Is.
Nicholas Pooran, LSG’s current vice-captain, is the other obvious option. He’s played more than 70 IPL matches for over 1,700 runs, and was retained for ₹21 crore ahead of IPL 2025.
Aiden Markram is the third name doing the rounds. He’s led Sunrisers Eastern Cape to multiple SA20 titles, and already has ties to the wider Goenka-owned franchise network.
None of this is confirmed. It’s pundit and media speculation until LSG makes an official call.
LSG’s Other Trade Chatter: Mohammed Shami Linked With A Move To CSK
A fresh rumour has LSG offering to send Mohammed Shami to Chennai Super Kings, in exchange for young Gujarat batter Urvil Patel.
This one’s still developing and hasn’t been picked up by major English outlets yet, so treat it as early regional reporting rather than a confirmed story.
Shami only joined LSG himself last November, traded in from Sunrisers Hyderabad. His IPL 2026 season didn’t go to plan either. LSG’s bowling attack, which he led, struggled through the campaign.

Urvil Patel, the batter LSG is reportedly chasing, is a 26-year-old Gujarat wicketkeeper who cost CSK just ₹30 lakh at the IPL 2025 auction.
Funnily enough, the innings that put him on everyone’s radar came against LSG themselves. Patel smashed 65 off just 23 balls against Lucknow in May 2026, one of the joint-fastest fifties in IPL history.
He got that chance after CSK’s regular No. 3, Ayush Mhatre, was injured, and made the absolute most of it.
LSG’s Previous IPL Trade: Mohammed Shami In From SRH
| Season | Player In | Player Out | Trade Partner | Date Confirmed |
| IPL 2026 | Mohammed Shami | — | Sunrisers Hyderabad | November 2025 (all-cash deal) |
This is LSG’s most recent trade before the current window. Sunrisers Hyderabad sent Mohammed Shami to Lucknow in an all-cash deal worth ₹10 crore, his existing fee from the IPL 2025 auction.
The move reunited Shami with former India bowling coach Bharat Arun, who had just joined LSG’s coaching staff.
IPL 2027 Auction And Trade Window: Key Dates For LSG Fans
IPL 2027 is expected to run on a mini-auction format. Mega auctions typically happen once every three to four years, and the last one was held in 2025.
The pre-auction trade window opened in late June 2026. Reports expect it to stay open until roughly the second week of December 2026, about a week before the auction itself.
The exact auction date isn’t confirmed yet. Some reports point to the third week of November 2026, others to the third week of December 2026, in line with the IPL 2026 auction, which was held on December 16 in Abu Dhabi. The BCCI hasn’t announced an official date.
Once the auction wraps up, a second trade window reopens and stays active until about a month before IPL 2027 begins, expected in late March 2027.
Conclusion: A New Era Starts With A Trade And A Captaincy Search
Lucknow Super Giants has already reshaped its bowling attack with the Kuldeep trade. The bigger decision, who leads the side in IPL 2027, is still pending.
Add the Shami-to-CSK chatter to the mix, and this franchise still has plenty to sort out before the season starts.
We’ll update this page as soon as LSG names a new captain or confirms any further trade activity.
